Within Your Ken

Ken Silver
Regional Vice-Chair
Region 4

I had a great time with Chicago Area Mensa over Martin Luther King weekend at their annual Gathering of Gamers. This is all about board games instead of cards, done in a highly social, non-competitive spirit. Not that I don’t love playing cancellation hearts also, but this is a welcome change-of-pace for many. I hate to complain about anything, but this billed as an “all-nighter,” and as long as I had often been up until 4 or 5 in the morning at various RGs and AGs playing games on an impromptu basis, I figured I’d have company this time. It almost worked out that way, but not quite. My final playing partner of the night, the very delightful Kenya Matthews, left at 5:30 AM once the Starbucks in the lobby opened. Fortunately it wasn’t long until the Chair of the event, my good friend and fellow AMC member, Robin Crawford was up getting ready for the reappearance of the gamers, and I was able to offer her my assistance.

As Communications Officer, and a member of countless committees, Robin is very active at the national level of Mensa. But true to Chicago tradition, no matter what else you do in Mensa, even if like Stacey Kirsch you’re Director of Administration for International Mensa, you remain active at the local level.

The Region 4 website is in the process of being updated. Our new webmaster is Tina Bernu, who recently joined Minnesota Mensa. Tina’s doing a great job of bringing things up-to-date! When you e-mail webmaster@region4.us.mensa.org with a calendar event, or other information, it will go to Tina and not some black hole, as had been the case since our previous webmaster resigned. So be sure to make use of our once again useful regional website at www.region4.us.mensa.org.

This is my last chance to remind you to renew your membership without lapsing, so take a minute and do it now while you’re thinking about it!

Ken
